Why We Are Different - About Us

Chiropractic is often considered an alternative to mainstream medicine. At S.M.A.R.T. Chiropractic our intention is to be considered a specialty in mainstream medicine, rather than an alternative to it. Just as a dermatologist is a specialist of conditions of the skin, the doctors at S.M.A.R.T. Chiropractic consider themselves specialists of the neuromusculoskeletal (nerves, muscles, bones/joints) system. And even more specifically, we are sports medicine experts.

Are you tired of visiting a chiropractor and getting no lasting results? You get adjusted, and feel great, but two days later the pain and stiffness are back again! Well forget that antiquated treatment method.

I am a surfer and I have suffered from back pain for over a year. I always thought that it was sort of inevitable and that I would always have to deal with my back pain. But Dr. Holt showed me otherwise.

Many chiropractors focus only on the spine. What they fail to address are conditions and dysfunction of the rest of the body. Every athlete knows, more often than not, other areas of the body hurt more than just the low back. What about the knee pain you’re experiencing? It may be due to dysfunction and weakness of muscles in your feet, thighs, and hips!

There are approximately 656 skeletal muscles in the human body. All movement in our body is influenced by muscles. A chiropractic adjustment fixes biomechanical dysfunction, but it can’t hold if the dysfunctional muscles remain dysfunctional! The doctors at S.M.A.R.T. Chiropractic treat these muscles by using the most widely accepted and utilized myofascial techniques such as Dynamic Motion Therapy (D.M.T.) similar to Active Release Technique, Graston Technique, Cross-Friction, Rapid Release Therapy, and Cold LASER.

All of these techniques are state-of-the-art soft tissue treatment methods that address conditions of the muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves that arise from acute trauma or repetitive stress. Combine that with strength and conditioning rehabilitation, and you’ve got a winning combo!
